What A Difference A Day Makes

This picture was taken last week.  Mid January in Wisconsin.  There is Sweet Annie coming up in the back corner and Black Eyed Susans popping up just in front of the newly found old shelves.

Can't wait to give these a whitewash for the Hawthorne Hill Farm sale this May.

The Parsley was still going strong,  I just used it in my chicken soup.

Even this Primrose had new leaves.

Reality strikes, the temp drops 30 degrees and it finally looks and feels like January in Wisconsin.

Poor Parsley.

Enjoy your January!   Kathi

The White Issue

I am so thrilled to be featured here! My shop, All Things White, and a bit of my story can be found on pages 48-55.

Heather is such an amazing and talented person. Her blog, Heather Spriggs, is wonderful and I visit it often for inspiration. Heather recently started an online magazine- this is the third issue and it's right up my alley! I couldn't have been happier when I found it she was going to be doing an all white issue. :)

Grab a cup of coffee and take some time to enjoy this gorgeous collection.

Trip to New Orleans Part III

Another fun thing we did was a daytime steamboat cruise on the Mississippi River. It was tourist-y but I'm glad we did it :-D Here are a few photos from our two hours aboard the Steamboat Natchez-

Trip to New Orleans Part II

The food on this trip was amaaaazinnggg. It was some of the best I've ever had and between having a foodie boyfriend & living in NYC that's saying a lot, right? My meals were mainly vegetarian which can get boring but not in good ol' New Orleans! Here's a sampling of what I was lucky enough to dine on--

Baked Brie- Aged brie cheese baked and topped with an apple chutney served with roasted garlic, fresh fruit and crispy French bread- at Crescent City Brewhouse
I also recommend the Gourmet Chicken Sandwich- Fried chicken breast topped with provolone, fennel, Fuji apple and cranberry slaw on a seeded brioche bun with ancho chili aioli and sweet potato fries.

Farm Arugula with Pickled Cucumber, Local Citrus and Ponzu Vinaigrette at Mila

Unsure of the details on this dish but in the back of this picture is a tasty Mississippi Mule cocktail- Plymouth Gin, Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice, Cassis Liqour (also at Mila)

Sweet Potato Pappardelle with Shiitake Mushrooms, Kale, Baby Root Vegetables and Shaved Sheep Cheese (Mila)

Raspberry Cream Tart- Cornmeal crust, pastry cream, raspberries, pistachios (Mila)

Covey Rise acorn squash risotto- brussel sprouts in brown butter, mushroom parmesan crisps at August with Chef John Besh!  I also recommend Candied quince and pear consomme- truffled celery root, pear butter and walnut oil or anything from the tasting menu of farmer's market vegetables.

Complimentary treats and in the back of this picture is a classic Gravier Gin Fizz (also at August)

Pumpkin Pecan Pancakes- with Smith Creamery butter and cane syrup at Dante's Kitchen

Hash browns (also Dante's Kitchen)

Another restaurant I'd recommend is Dick and Jenny's. I didn't get any photos of the food but we had-
Savory Wild Mushroom & Blue Cheese Cheesecake- with Blue Cheese Aioli; Crispy Caprese Eggplant Fritters- Balsamic Vinegar marinated Tomatoes topped with Goat & Blue Cheese Crumbles & a Fresh Basil Pesto; House Made Vegetarian Gnocchi- with a Sauteed Spinach, Shallot & Garlic Cream Sauce, and an Apple Cart cocktail- Daron Calvados, Lemon, Cointreau & Baked Apple Bitters, served up with a Sugar Rim. If you are ever in NOLA check out any and/or all of the restaurants I've mentioned-- the food, drinks, service, atmosphere, etc. were all perfection!!!

Trip to New Orleans Part I

My Christmas present from my boyfriend this year was a trip to New Orleans for New Year's. Wow! I had the most fantastic time and will have a few more blog posts about it I'm sure. We took hundreds & hundreds of pictures in six days. Here are some of really old homes and buildings that I found wonderfully interesting. Andrew was probably thinking "Why on earth is she taking so many pictures of beat up houses?" He's still learning that all of this kind of stuff is AWESOME :-P I believe most of these were taken in the French Quarter. So much historic charm.
